One-day workshop on ‘Scuba Divers’ at ROTI, Gothapatna, Bhubaneswar
Additional Chief Secretary to Govt. & Managing Director, OSDMA inaugurated the one-day workshop on ‘Scuba Divers’ at ROTI, Gothapatna, Bhubaneswar. Commandant 6th Bn-cum- Nodal Officer, ODRAF, CFO Fire Services, CGM, DGM (T&C) and about 108 Scuba Divers from ODRAF, Fire Service and across the state attended the workshop. Additional Chief Secretary to Govt & Managing Director, OSDMA emphasized upon having defence standard scuba divers and a dedicated scuba divers training institute in Odisha. Insurance of scuba divers, operation & maintenance of equipment’s are some other points were highlighted during the programme.

Principal Secretary (DM) and Managing Director, OSDMA chaired a meeting today with Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Commissioner and SSEPD Department to establish a dedicated Cell for issues on Disability during Disaster in OSDMA. The Cell will broadly address different issues of Disability and Disaster in the State. Officers from OSDMA, UNDP, UN WOMEN were present in the meeting.

A team led by Shri S.A Murugesan, IAS, Secretary Incharge, Department of Disaster Management, Uttarakhand State Disaster management Authority (USDMA) comprising Dr. Girish Chandra Joshi, Senior Consultant, Shri B.B Gannayak, Consultaant, IRS, Major (Retd.) Rahul Jugran, Head, SEOC, and Shri Bhupendra Bhaisora, Manager (Technical), DMMC, visited OSDMA and Special Relief Commissioner office to understand the practical implication of Decision Support System during management of Cyclone Fani. The team interacted with Pradeep Jena, IAS, Principal Secretary (DM) & Managing Director, OSDMA and officers of OSDMA and SRC discussed on different aspects of disaster management like policies, procedures, implementation, and changing paradigms of Disaster Management. The team will visit to understand and witness the functionality of the EWDS and DSS system in a District Emergency Operation Center.

Dr. Aramuge Aderito Celso Felix, Director General, National Meteorological Institute (INAM), Mozambique with leading a team of two officials Mr. Acacio Joao Martins Tembe, Mr. Horacacio Riberio Matamane, INAM and Dr. Jothiganesh Shanmugasundaram, Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) visited Odisha on 7th of December, 2019 to learn about the best practices on Cyclone forecasting and ‘end to end’ early warning system for effective disaster management. The team interacted with OSDMA and SRC Officials. Based upon the learning on Odisha’s successful cyclone risk management during Phailin, Titli & Fani, Dr. Felix Aramuge and team discussed with Sri Pradeep Jena, Principal Secretary (DM) & Managing Director, OSDMA, on Odisha’s best practices in managing disasters and future course of action towards building resilience. The team visited District Emergency Operation Center and cyclone shelter Tikana under Gop block in Puri district and interacted with the community and Cyclone Shelter Management & Maintenance Committee (CSMMC) members. An Inter-Ministerial Central Team led by Ms Saheli Ghosh Roy, Joint Secretary (CIC), Ministry of Home Affairs visited Odisha on 14-15 November, 2019 for the spot assessment of situation in the district of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak & Balasore in the wake of Extremely Sever Cyclonic Strom Bulbul which passed near to the coast of Odisha. The team comprised Ms. Vandana Singhal, Chief Engineer, Ministry of Power, Mr. Deena Nath, Consultant, Department of Expenditure, Mr. S.S Modi, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of RD, Mr. Amrish Pal Singh, SE, CWC, Odisha, Dr. Virendra Singh, Director, DRD, Deptt. Of Agriculture of Patna and Mr. Sunil Kumar, Ministry of Road Transport, Regional office, Bhubaneswar. The team visited the cyclone affected areas of districts and assessed the restoration work and interacted with the community members. The team also had a wrap-up meeting with Chief Secretary and other Secretaries of different departments at the Lok Seva Bhavan, Odisha today evening. The Principal Secretary (DM) & Special Relief Commissioner, Shri Pradeep Jena appraised the team about the damage caused to different sectors due to the cyclone Bulbul. The team appreciated the State Government efforts for quick relief and restoration work.
