Regional Workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction 2020

The Regional Workshop of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) was held at Hotel Mayfair today. It will continue for 2 days. The inaugural sessions keynote was delivered by Sri GVV Sarma, IAS Member Secretary, NDMA. The workshop was graced by the kind presence of Sri Pradeep Jena, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Odisha & MD, OSDMA and Sri Sandeep Poundrik, IAS, Joint Secretary (Mitigation), NDMA. Dr. Aurobindo Behera, IAS (Retd.) graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. This workshop is expected to help the concerned states in planning the disaster risk reduction measures in better way which will contribute the overall risk reduction thereby the losses due to natural disasters in the country.

Day One: (10.02.2020)

The 1st Technical session of Regional Workshop on DRR i.e., Cyclone & Tsunami Risk Reduction was chaired by Sri GVV Sarma, IAS Member Secretary, NDMA. Four presentations were made on the theme like National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project by Sri S Kumar, Deputy Project Director, NDMA followed by Cyclone Early Warning System in the Country by Ms. Sunitha Devi, Scientist E, IMD and Dr. EP Rama Rao, Scientist F INCOIS, Hyderabad made a presentation on Tsunami Early Warning System in the Country. Sri P.K Jena, Additional Chief Secretary & MD OSDMA gave a presentation on Cyclone Risk Reduction Measures taken by Odisha.

The theme for the 2nd Technical session of Regional Workshop on DRR i.e., Earthquake Risk and Mitigation Measures was chaired by Sri P.K Jena, ACS & MD OSDMA. Three presentations were made on the theme like Earthquake Risk in the Country & its Mitigation Measures by Prof. CVR Murty, IIT Madras followed by Earthquake Monitoring Activities by Dr. G. Suresh, Scientist F and Ms. Reeta Sandhilya, Secretary, Revenue of Chhattisgarh made a presentation on Earthquake Risk Mitigation Measures in their State.

The 3rd technical session was chaired by Nikunja Bihari Dhal, IAS, Principal Secretary, Health & FW Department, Govt. of Odisha.  Three presentations were made on the theme like Health Emergency Preparedness in the country by Dr. Saurabh Dalal, NDMA followed by presentation by Bihar and Odisha on Health Emergency Preparedness by Sh. Thyagarajan, DM, Darbhanga and Ms. Yamini Sadangi, IAS, (MD, Odisha State Medical Corporation) respectively.
