Second day of the 3 days State level Workshop on Managing Cyclone FANI lesson learnt and Way Forward is going on in Hotel HHI, Bhubaneswar. Nodal Officers from district level line departments, District Emergency Officers and District Project Officers from the FANI affected districts, officials and personnel's from Responses forces like ODRAF, NDRF, Odisha Fire Services and Civil Defense and Officials of OSDMA and NIDM are attending the Workshop. District wise preparedness, response, challenges faced, lessons learnt and way forward is being discussed in the Workshop. Response forces also elaborate their response activities taken up during the Cyclone in the Workshop. The objective of the Workshop is to document the Cyclone FANI.

3 Days State Level Work Shop on Managing Cyclone "FANI" Lessons learnt and the Way Forward started today at Hotel Hindustan International, Bhubaneswar with an objective of documenting the management of Extremely Sever Cyclonic Storm FANI. Nodal Officers from the key departments government of Odisha, delegates from the National Institute of Disaster Management and Officials of OSDMA and SRC are attending the Workshop. Department wise Preparedness, Response, lessons learnt and way forward are being discussed in the workshop. District level departmental Nodal Officers, representatives of response forces, CSO, NGOs and IAG members who were directly involved in the management of FANI have been invited to the workshop in the next two days.

Hon’ble Minister, Revenue & Disaster Management Shri Sudam Marndi today visited office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) and Odisha State Disaster Management Authority at Rajiv Bhawan, Bhubaneswar and reviewed the status of relief and restoration in the cyclone (FANI) affected areas. The review meeting was attended by the Special Relief Commissioner & Commissioner-cum-Secretary to Govt., Disaster Management Shri Bishnupada Sethi and other officers of the SRC and OSDMA. During the review, Hon’ble Minister stressed on repair/ restoration of primary school buildings damaged due to cyclone before reopening of schools after summer vacation. Hon’ble Minister also emphasized on quick restoration of the Anganwadi Centres, health institutions and electricity in all the affected areas. He directed to ensure that all the basic facilities such as drinking water, generator, search & rescue equipment are available in all multi-purpose cyclone and flood shelters and viewed that there is a need for construction of more Multi-purpose Cyclone and Flood Shelters in the State. Hon’ble Minister also enquired about the adequacy of the State Disaster Response Forces and the equipment available with them. After the meeting, Hon’ble Minister visited the office of the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) and reviewed various activities.

The Annual Conference of States/UTs Relief Commissioners to review status of preparedness for South West Monsoon 2019 was held on 21st and 22nd May 2019 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The conference was organised by Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. Of India. Sri Bishupada Sethi, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, DM and Special Relief Commissioner, Odisha made a presentation on preparedness on cyclone Fani in the conference. The participants had highly appreciated the Odisha's preparedness and evacuation of 1.5 million people within 24 hours before the cyclone.
