Objectives
|
A workshop and Stakeholder conference on Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESM F) and screening of the projects under NCRMP was organized by Orissa State Disaster Management Authority at Hotel Swosti Premium, Bhubaneswar on 22nd August 2009. The workshop aimed at i) Orienting the Field level officers of Executing Agencies on various features of ESMF. ii) Sharing the views of different stakeholders, community leaders, Members of Panchayati Raj Institutions and Active NGOs in the project area on environmental and social impact of the proposed investments under NCRMP.

Mr C.V Sankar, Project Director, NCRMP, NDMA attended the Workshop. Ms Neha Vyas, Environmental Specialist, World Bank and Mr Venkat Rao Bayana, Social Specialist, World Bank attended the workshop as observers. Mr Rahul Lovell and Mr Kapil Suresan Environment specialist of E& Y) also participated in the workshop as Resource Persons.

Participation
|
Apart from the Senior Officers, Experts from NDMA and the World Bank, State level officers of Rural Development Department, Water Resources, Fisheries and Forest & Environment Department attended the Workshop. Field level officers from the above Executing Departments, Collectors of selected NCRMP Districts, Representatives of District and local Administration, Senior officers of State Project Implementation Unit, Consultants of PIU, Representatives of ESMF consultant of OSDMA participated in the workshop.
Scientists, academicians and experts in the fields of geography, environmental sciences, senior officers, representatives/ scientists from reputed institutions such as Orissa Remote Sensing Application Center (ORSAC), Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (Bhubaneswar) Chilika Development Authority, UtkalUniversity, and Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar participated in the workshop.
An important feature of the Conference was participation of different Stakeholders like environmentalists, Social Experts, Community leaders, members of Panchayati Raj Institutions, Indian Red Cross Society, representatives of Cyclone Shelter Management and Maintenance Committees (CSMMC) and members of active NGOs from the project area.
