Integrating Disability in Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Response Project
1.0 Orissa State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) in collaboration with Handicap International(HI) -an international organization specialized in the field of disability will implement a project in the state of Orissa titled “Integrating disability in community based disaster risk reduction and response” with the support of DIPECHO. The project has been designed to address the key issues and challenges faced by the disable people and based on the learning from the previous project. The project covers 8 cyclone shelters (6 shelters of OSDMA and 2 shelters of Red Cross) in the districts of Balasore, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur. The duration of the Project is 15 months w.e.f 1st July,2009.
2.0 Objectives: To reduce vulnerability and strengthen capacities of multi-hazard prone communities in Orissa by engaging people in inclusive communities with special focus on PwDs and CwDs throughout the entire cycle of disaster risk management
3.0 Operational Area:The Project will be implemented in the following Cyclone Shelters constructed by OSDMA.
